World Thinking Day 2022
Making the world a better place is Girl Scout Law, so it’s no surprise we have a holiday dedicated to doing just that. Each year on February 22, Girl Scouts and Girl Guides across 150 countries celebrate World Thinking Day. It’s a day of international friendship and a time to stand up for causes that could improve the lives of girls around the globe. This year’s theme is “Our World, Our Equal Future: The Environment and Gender Equality”.
We are diving into this topic deeper than ever with a unique three-part program that will be spread across the entire month of February, including an exciting opportunity for girls to share their art and ideas with tens of thousands of other Girl Scouts!
- In Early February, girls are invited to learn about trees, take the Girl Scout Tree Promise, and explore their local forests.
- In mid-February, girls will take their new environmental knowledge to deep, girl-led discussions about the ways that women are disproportionately affected by climate change—and how girls can lead the way to a greener future.
- Then, in late February, girls across the council are invited to create their own pieces of art, personal reflections, and creative writing in response to the issues they’ve explored all month. They can submit these pieces to us to be included in a first-of-its-kind, girl-led magazine of literature and art: Our Council, Our Voices. We’ll be sharing the publication across our entire council-- because our girls deserve to be heard!
Plus, each of these three parts has a signature event to go along with it! Activity guides and event details will be coming soon, so keep an eye on our website and social media. We will be hosting a “World Thinking Day Town Hall” on January 17th to provide more details and answer your questions.
