Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital has a long-standing tradition of participating in the Presidential Inauguration. Girl Scouts have marched in Inaugural Parades since 1917, but it was a major struggle to win that privilege. Parade organizers didn’t think young girls could stand the physical demands of marching, and we actually had to audition in advance. (see the news article that appeared in the Washington Post). We have proudly marched or volunteered for over 100 years in recognition of that hard-fought right. As a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, we are and always will be nonpartisan, and we will never support one political party or candidate over another.
As the 59th Presidential Inauguration is fast approaching we want to ensure we capture your interest to participate in this long-standing tradition. We don't know, given the pandemic, what our opportunities will be, but we want to "be prepared", our motto states. Please submit your participation interest by clicking survey. For other ways, you can participate in see the Presidential Inauguration patch program.
