Gain a better understanding of the Chesapeake Bay’s oyster reef ecosystem and management by exploring careers in conservation and biology. Travel to Cox Creek along the southside of the Patapsco River with the National Aquarium for an outdoor field research experience. Scouts will learn about Maryland's historic native shoreline and how conservation land management and wildlife surveying, is helping to restore it.
Along the coastline, scouts will receive “hands-on, feet wet” learning opportunities using field equipment biologists use to survey the biodiversity and water quality of the site. Please note that on this excursion we will be walking along trails with muddy and sandy, uneven terrain. This is an all-outdoor drop-off event so all participants must dress accordingly, wear closed-toed shoes, and bring a water bottle. Waders for aquatic exploration activities will be provided. All participating scouts will receive a National Aquarium patch.
