This course qualifies participants to take a troop to established sites with readily accessible potable water and latrines or bathrooms for both day cookout trips and overnight camping trips. Skill building includes using kaper charts; building wood and charcoal fires and using portable cook stoves; selecting appropriate campsites; pitching tents; camping at sites with Adirondack shelters, glen shelters, platform tents, treehouses, cabins or lodges. The focus of the training is the outdoor progression, how to plan girl-led camping trips and how to teach outdoor skills to your troop in an age appropriate way.
This is a 30-hour blended-learning course made up of three required parts: self-paced online modules, a 2-hour live virtual planning session, and an in-person overnight skills session. There is no fee to register, but you will be expected to bring supplies and food as determined by your patrol. Expect to spend approximately $10-$25. The camp overnight will take place at Camp Crowell January 11-12, 2025.
Please be aware that if you are unable to attend your scheduled virtual planning session, you must cancel (planning session AND in-person overnight) and register for another training. Your volunteer adult educators will contact you by e-mail with details.
