Girl Scouts Take a Stand Against Bullying

At Girl Scouts Nation's Capital, we are committed to empowering individuals to champion what's just and right, and that includes taking a stand against bullying. Girl Scouts are not just advocates against bullying; we are allies for those who have been affected. We actively promote diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion within our organization and beyond.
Girl Scouts in our council have taken a strong stance against bullying through their Gold Award projects by calling attention to unhealthy relationships and recognizing unkind behavior.
Margaret’s Gold Award Project ”Get Out!” aimed to empower teenage girls by helping them identify the characteristics of healthy, unhealthy and toxic teen relationships. The educational video provides strategies on improving teen relationships and outlines strategies on getting out of unhealthy and toxic teen relationships. The video also supplies teens with emergency resources.
Hailey’s Gold Award project ”Breaking Bias” provided numerous workshops to 4th-5th graders about the unconscious bias we all have towards those who may be different than us. Through presentations as well as games these workshops, facilitated by Hailey and educational professionals, raised awareness to biases when it comes to race, gender and individuals with disabilities. Meaningful discussions led to identifying solutions and how each individual is responsible for addressing their own unconscious biases through use of language and exploring stereotypes to avoid hurting people and empathize more with those we are different from to make this world a better place.
