In Backpack Camping, you will learn health and safety procedures for a Girl Scout backpack camping trip including water purification methods. There will be a focus on how to make planning and execution of the trip girl-led, including how to identify and discuss concerns/considerations relevant to a successful experience. Participants will learn about proper physical and mental conditioning, skills necessary for hiking on various types of terrain, low impact camping skills including the use of personal catholes, appropriate clothing and equipment, planning and budgeting for appropriate food using low impact cooking methods, and basic map and compass skills. This course qualifies adults to supervise Girl Scouts on overnight hiking trips that may include multiple primitive campsites. It includes an in- person planning session and an overnight skills session. This is an advanced camping course.
