Get certified in Basic Cookout! This class trains adults so they can instruct Girl Scouts (and other adults) in the troop. As the adult taking on the role of cookout-trained person for the troop, you provide adult supervision as they progress through learning the "Girl Scout way" to prepare meals, cook, manage fires, use knives, and clean up at an age appropriate level.
The class will provide you with the tools to assess where your troop is in the progression toward being able to conduct an outdoor cookout. You will then use these tools and progression steps in helping your girls to attain the skills to successfully prepare a meal and spend a day doing activities in the outdoors. This course qualifies adults to lead a troop on day cookouts with readily accessible drinkable (potable) water and with latrines or bathrooms. This class does not qualify the adult to take a troop on an overnight trip.
Who should take this class?
Volunteers working with younger troops who might like to make s'mores over a campfire or to plan a cookout as preparation for camping in the future.
