Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity that involves using
either a handheld GPS device or an app on a smartphone to navigate to
coordinates, where you then search to find hidden containers. There
are millions of publicly available geocaches currently hidden all over
the world. Girl Scout Juniors can earn the Geocacher badge, and teen
scouts typically also enjoy the activity. It can be used either as a
standalone activity or as an activity station for outdoor activity
days, service unit encampments, summer day camps, etc.
This
class will cover the basics of Geocaching, learning how to use a
handheld GPS device to go Geocaching, and info about how to teach
Geocaching to Girl Scouts Junior level and above.
