Building Relationships in Our Communities
Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital strives to be a reliable and trusted partner for community and religious organizations across our region. We value our longstanding partnerships with houses of worship, local organizations and civic groups that share the values of the Girl Scout Promise and Law. We also encourage these organizations to increase opportunities for Girl Scouts by hosting events and providing programs. We urge our volunteers and staff to schedule events respectfully, with attention to the religious and cultural holidays celebrated by families in our diverse council.
Outreach Programs
Community based camps
Girl Scout community-based camps are offered throughout the region during school spring and summer breaks. These camps provide non – Girl Scout members with a safe and fun place to learn about our Girl Scout traditions and programs. Public Schools
With support from the District of Columbia Schools, Girl Scout troops are expanding in some of the lowest performing schools in the District of Columbia. The Girl Scout model engages teachers, parents and the community to provide Girl Scouts with a safe space to explore their interests and grow in confidence. Encuentro de Chicas Latinas
Encuentro de Chicas Latinas is a leadership conference to introduce non-Girl Scouts to Girl Scouting, while focusing on preparing them to be financially savvy. The workshops will include how to budget, save for college and the importance of building credit, and to help middle and high schoolers understand the power of their financial future.
Celebrating Faith and Spirituality
Everything in Girl Scouting is based on the Girl Scout Promise and Law, which include many principles and values that are common across religions. Because we understand that religious instruction is at the center of many families and communities, we invite Girl Scouts to take spiritual journeys via their faith’s religious recognitions. Girl Scouts is welcoming and inclusive to members of all faiths.
Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital is working with the Archdiocese of Washington on Girl Scouting resource, and we are pleased to inform you that the Archdiocese of Arlington has created a memorandum of understanding for local parishes to use when establishing Girl Scout troops in their schools and churches.
