In recent years, the accounting and finance industry has witnessed a significant transformation, with women now comprising nearly 46% of the employees at CPA firms. However, despite this encouraging progress, women—in particular women of color— continue to face disproportionate obstacles in attaining partnership and leadership roles. Jessica E. McClain, Chief Financial Officer of Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital, serves as a beacon of inspiration, setting a high standard for women in the accounting profession and placing a strong emphasis on uplifting and empowering women and girls.
In June 2023, McClain was recognized as one of the ‘Most Powerful Women in Accounting’. This prestigious award is not only a testament to her exceptional leadership, financial expertise, and dedication to driving growth and success for women beyond the accounting profession, but it also highlights the transformative shift taking place in a traditionally male-dominated field. McClain shared, “This award recognizes women who are visible in giving give back to a profession that we care deeply about. It is nice to have recognition for helping others when it is often not seen.” As a trailblazer in the industry, she has set a high standard for women in accounting and prioritizes uplifting other women. Jessica’s mentorship is reminiscent of Girl Scout programming, guiding Girl Scouts in developing skills and experience that will help them land management and leadership roles.
The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and CPA Practice Advisor ‘Most Powerful Women in Accounting’ awards are a celebration of women whose impact goes beyond the job, building community in their field through mentorship and empowering others
