3 Ways Girl Scouts Celebrated World Thinking Day

Date Published: March 6, 2023

On February 22nd, Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital Service Units across the council celebrated World Thinking Day. Throughout the globe Girl Scouts and Girl Guides learn about the history and culture of other countries. Three Service Units shared their unique ways of celebrating:

Songs, Skits, and So Much More

Service Unit 34-7 enjoyed an afternoon full of songs, skits, and trying food from around the world, ending the celebration with the traditional friendship circle. For many troops, this was their first time participating in World Thinking Day or their first event back since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Looking across at the 100+ girls in attendance, I didn’t have to know their individual stories to know that the last few years were incredibly challenging for them,” says Girl Scout parent Anna Hargrave. “Despite it all, there they were playing Simon Says and singing Princess Pat at the top of their lungs with so much joy and gusto. It felt amazing!”.

“Our World, Our Peaceful Future” Art Show

Together with Shepherd University's Visual Arts Collective, Service Unit 15-08 got creative and curated an art show to celebrate. The Art Show featured work from 47 Girl Scouts, showcasing their art pieces around this year’s theme “Our World, Our Peaceful Future: The environment, peace, and security”.

Girl Scout Airlines: Around the World in an Afternoon

Girl Scout Troop 4791 took World Thinking Day to the skies by hosting this year’s event for Service Unit 70-15. With an airline theme, these Girl Scouts took their passports and checked off each country they visited to explore the world in one afternoon. “Everyone was so happy to be together as a service unit. Leaders were exchanging ideas, and troops were so engaged-so happy to be in full swing again!” said 4791 Troop Leader.
