
Today, we celebrate a truly remarkable woman, Sarah Phillips, as she turns 99 years young! Sarah, also known by her camp name “Sunny,” has been a long-standing supporter and dedicated member of Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital.
Sarah’s journey with Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital began 59 years ago, her tireless efforts and unwavering commitment have left a lasting impact on the Girl Scout community and have inspired countless Girl Scouts throughout the years.
Sarah has pioneered the outdoors, earning her camp name “Sunny” for her positive and sunny behavior, she was instrumental in founding Camp Tag-a-Long held at Camp Potomac Woods and was a volunteer at the camp for 30 years. Her love for day camps expanded as she noticed a need for camps in Loudon County, bringing volunteers together to create Camp Franklin Park in Western Loudon and Camp Sunny, named after Sarah for her dedication to the outdoors.
As we celebrate Sarah’s 99th birthday, we reflect on her remarkable journey and the countless lives she has touched, and how her enthusiasm for Girl Scouts has created a lasting impact that will be cherished for generations to come.
