Dear Girl Scouts,
I am Lance Corporal John C. Bryant. I am a Marine that served in Vietnam. I achieved the rank of Sargent from combat battlefields. When I was wounded in combat helping another Marine move to safety, I was honored with this promotion. I also received the President’s Citation for Valor and the Purple Heart Medal for serving. As a Marine, we have a slogan/motto: No man/no woman left behind. Once a Marine, always a Marine.
I became a Girl Scout Leader with my wife in 1990. We relocated from New York City and there were no troops in our area, so we volunteered.
I have a lot of memories as a Troop Leader, traveling with the Girl Scouts to San Diego, Mexico (visiting one of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts World Centres, Nuestra Cabaña), New York City, and cruising with them to the Bahamas. As a volunteer, being SHARE Chair for two Service Units and making our goals is very rewarding also. My main pride was seeing my daughters achieve their Gold Award and my oldest daughter become a Girl Scout Leader with the older scouts.
Girl Scouting teaches girls leadership skills and how to be a part of a team. It’s important to be a member of an organization that is known worldwide. Girl Scouting teaches youth fun things as well as lifetime skills such as money management, public speaking, and traveling, just to name a few.
The friends you make in Girl Scouting become friends for life just like in the service.
Once a Girl Scout, always a Girl Scout!
Sincerely,
Lance Corporal John C. Bryant
