Camp Coles Trip in Stafford, Virginia, is on the shores of the Aquia Creek and spans 229 wooded acres. Aquia sandstone was taken from quarries in the area to be used in the construction of the Capitol Building and the White House. The camp features lodges, glen shelters, platform tents, covered wagons and a primitive unit. Camp Coles Trip has two sides, Aquia and Arrowhead, accessible by a long hike or vehicle.
Camp Coles Trip has beach access on the Aquia side of camp and offers kayaking and canoeing. There is also an archery range on the Aquia side of camp, and tomahawk and slingshot ranges on both sides for troops to use.
Please note: the cots and mattresses are only located on the Aquia side, not the Arrowhead side of camp.
Government Island is a nearby park where you can see the Aquia Sandstone used to build the White House and U.S. Capitol. Stafford Civil War Park showcases the remains of a Union Army infantry camp.
