Spring has Sprung! A Blog Post from CEO Lidia Soto-Harmon

Dear Girl Scout Family,

Happy April! As we enter Spring and watch the Cherry Blossoms bloom, I hope this new weather has given you a new boost of energy. This season is going to be one of amazing festivities and opportunities at our Council.

April is volunteer appreciation month, and our volunteers are the reason our Council is great. You all are the backbone of our organization and are the reason we all thrive. From our camping sessions to hosting Troop meetings, our volunteers participate in every aspect of this organization and for that I want to say THANK YOU! You all are the reason we can build Girls of courage, confidence, and character.

We have amazing events happening in our Council this month! April marks the beginning of baseball season, and Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital will be there! Join your service units, troops and families at Nationals Park for Girl Scout Day on April 23rd! By purchasing a special ticket, fans will receive a special Nationals Girl Scout patch. For every ticket sold, $5 will be donated back to our Council. It is sure to be an exciting event and we hope to see you all there!

This year we will be holding our Annual Meeting in person! On April 30th, 2022, the first time ever, we are holding our Annual Meeting at the Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie, Maryland. We will be “Hitting it out of the Park” with activities including 110 years of Girl Scout Uniforms (fashion show), adult volunteer recognitions, a Girl Scout Marketplace and the chance to see your friends again in person.  Please join us for the biggest event of the season! (and if you take a selfie with me, you can earn your new #selfiewithmyCEO patch!)

I want to remind you all of our 110 Anniversary Patch Program! Each patch is a puzzle piece, and new pieces are introduced monthly to correspond with activities happening in our Council. Every piece is iron on and interlocking, so by the end of the celebrations you should have a complete puzzle! This month you can earn your Earth Day patch! Stop by our Council store or reach out by phone (at 202-274 –3312) to get your patches and complete your puzzle.

Again, thank you to the lifeline of our Council, our volunteers, and the entire Girl Scout family for your support. You are what makes this Council great! I am looking forward to seeing you all in person very soon!

Yours in Girl Scouting,

Lidia Soto-Harmon
